2021 SummerFest Music Camps

Unleash your Inner Beethoven and Hans Zimmer! 

Our Film & Video Game Music Composition Summer Camp is available to participants grades 8-12 and will take place in-person or via distance learning depending on covid restrictions at time of camp. Campers will be able to learn the basic or intermediate techniques of composing music to picture, whether it is to create a soundtrack for their home movies or for their next YouTube video. This camp will present fun and engaging activities to unleash the music composer in each musician. Both tracks also include introduction to DAW (digital audio workstation) and visiting guest speaker composers from the world of video games and film. (Riot games, Blizzard, tba.)

  • Session 1: June 14-18 – (Track A)
  • Session 2: June 21-25 – (Track B)
  • Session 3: June 28-July1st – (Track A)
  • Session 4: July 12-16 – (Track B)

Track A – Composing music for Film and Video Games, including DAW introduction and guest speakers

Track B – Music Composition: In depth study of Form, Melody, Harmony and Music Theory, including DAW introduction as requested, with game and film composing guest speakers.

Some prior music study is required, the equivalent of 2 years music study in school or private lessons. At home simple keyboard, piano or guitar for composing and arranging assignments after class. 

Each Week Includes:

Study of scores and animatics, characters, themes. Composing assignments to picture elements, use of harmony, rhythm & melody to express emotion and action. The process of sketching to arranging to orchestration and conducting forms. Guest speakers and digital workstations are addressed. 

Camp Location:

If guidelines permit, camp will be located on the music school, 5266 Hollister Ave, Suite 301, Santa Barbara, 93111. Otherwise, camp will be held over zoom.

General Information:

Instruction is held M-F 10am -12pm, with music assignments to be worked at home, and returned the following day. The cost per session is $345. Siblings receive a $40 discount for a total cost of $305 per additional child.  Scholarships Available: Please contact the school director prior to registration to inquire about merit and need-based scholarships. 

Our camp is designed and led by professional symphonic artists and 30-year veteran educators Laurie Robinson & Maestro Emmanuel Fratianni, founders of the Southern California Piano Academy.
